When designing a replacement for their PMC-based Eagle radar scan converter product, Curtiss-Wright's engineers were faced with some tough component selection choices in order to meet objectives. Using the combination of an embedded processor and an advanced FPGA device offered computing performance and small size within constraints of power dissipation, ruggedness and budget that was needed to create a competitive new product.
