Staff Hardware Design Engineer

Primary Job Responsibilities:

Job Description
As a Staff Hardware Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading a small team of engineers in designing and developing reference and validation hardware incorporating the latest PowerPC technology and State-of-the-art communication components from Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC).

You will also be responsible for solving a broad range of complex high-speed hardware problems while developing and releasing products internally to AMCC as well as to outside customers. Your tasks include High-Speed Digital and Analog circuit designs, analysis, prototyping, testing, and documenting.


Education Requirement or Equivalent:

Responsibilities
•Interface directly with Marketing, ASIC and Software teams to define and architect hardware platforms.
•Produce Hardware Specification based on Marketing, ASIC, Software, and Customer requirement.
•Directly responsible for the design and development of digital and analog circuits for hardware products.
•Coordinate project deliverables with Marketing, Software, and ASIC team leads.
•Evaluate and select digital/analog hardware components based on performance, cost and feature tradeoffs.
•Perform High-Speed timing analysis.
•Generate hardware schematic and work with CAD engineers to do component placement and Printed Circuit Board layout.
•Select and Coordinate directly with contract manufacturers to develop Printed Circuit Board fabrication and assembly.
•Define and develop hardware test plan to ensure that the hardware meets performance and functional requirements


Experience Requirement:

Qualifications
•6-15 years of high-speed hardware design experience.
•Experience with complete product development cycle.
•Proven board designs integrating appropriate technologies required.
•Broad experience in Microprocessor and communication system development.
•Experience with high speed I/O designs: PCIe, PCIX, DDR2, Gigabit Ethernet.
•Experience with OrCAD schematic capture and Allegro PCB Design tools.
•Excellent English communications skills, both verbal and writing.
•BS/MS/Ph.D in Electrical Engineering/Computer Engineering or related discipline is required.
