The candidate will take a leadership role in characterizing the performance of PowerPC-based embedded processors, and architecting and designing for performance the next generation of PowerPC based multi-core processor family. This includes taking ownership of the performance characterization of the current family of PowerPC based embedded processor solutions, defining performance characterization requirements and methodologies, driving the characterization process, and setting performance goals at the SoC level. The candidate will also work with the software team to define the requirements and methodologies for modeling the next embedded processor platform. Various forms of performance characterization to be covered include micro-benchmarks and application benchmarks of the SOC. The candidate will contribute to distribution of information through internal performance analysis reports as well as white papers, as well as work with lead SoC and processor sub-system architects on the next generation platforms, contributing to the architectural design process based on performance optimizations and trade-offs.
Education Requirement or Equivalent:
The candidate must have experience with embedded general purpose processor architecture, and working knowledge of performance benchmarking (EEMBC, IOMeter, etc.) and debugging methods and best practices. Familiarity with processor sub-system synthetic benchmarks (Dhrystone, EEMBC) is a plus. Working understanding of PowerPC architecture is a benefit. The candidate should have a reasonable familiarity with storage and networking software, along with a good working knowledge of embedded technology (e.g., DRAM memory controller, Ethernet, TOE, DMA, PCI Express, etc.) and the software interfaces, including the challenges and associated performance trade-offs.
Experience Requirement:
Experience with software optimization techniques is a plus.
Special Skills or Knowledge Required:
